so, at long last, i am posting photos of the embroidery i am working on, even though after i rinsed out the stencil paper it kind of screwed it up. any embroidery people with suggestions for transferring your own detailed stencil onto fabric, please feel free to drop me a comment. i am not sure if i should be using some kind of backing, because the vintage linens are pretty thin, and if i should try the other stencil pencils that i have heard good things about that just iron on. i worry with the chalk ones that it won’t hold the detail well enough, and i am not sure with these ones that wash away if the thickness when it is washed away will always mess it up regardless of backing. that said…

it isn’t finished yet, but i find that i really love the way that the back looks.
really amazing.
i packaged up orders and sent them all out, which always takes me forever, because i always wrap everything in tissue and put a card in and candy and little pressies, and it takes me forever. i am not very quick at much of anything.
after jake got home and we had eaten dinner, we went for a walk and of course i took the camera…
i am so hoping that this door wasn’t stripped to prep it for a new paint job, as opposed to just letting it be it’s gorgeous self. and i love the tennis shoes by the door. so pretty. all the spring flowers are out and gorgeous, sun shining…
just gorgeous. so so nice.
when we got home, peeps, the fluffy cat was meowing at me and going to the back door and meowing and looking at me and i thought that maybe she wanted to go out on her harness, so i got her saddled and ready and we sat outside and she ate grass, the only thing she likes to do out there, like a little billy goat. i took her in, although she didn’t want to go in, and put the harness on pavel, who won’t even let us put a collar on him, he goes totally nuts if you try to put one on, anyway, he let me put it on, not so happily, and i took him outside for a little while and he smelled everything and slunk around in the way cats do when they have a leash on. and peeps tried to run out when i opened the door. kahlo gets totally terrified outside, even though i know she would really like to go out, she has actually managed to run out of a harness before. not good.
i spun some really pretty yarns, cleaned up the studio a bit and started two small paintings, hopefully i can post photos of my progress, or finish them to-morrow. i was shocked to find out how cheap pre-stretched and primed canvases are and decided to use them. although, i would like to find some really little ones, but haven’t had much luck. i want to do some small ones in multiples, i am into multiples, like at least 3 per set.
i found out for sure from tanya from pittsburgh knit and bead that they will be closing in 8 weeks unless someone buys the shop. the shop does well, she just doesn’t want to do it anymore. she is there pretty much anytime they are open, and that wears you down fast. anyway, they will be having sales from now until then, so for those of you in the neighborhood, stop by. i am excited to get some eyelashy fluttery cheap stuff that i like to spin into my yarns. they have great stuff there. and tanya is a wonderful lady. she was the first shop to have my yarns in there, and i was not nearly as good as i am now. i was not good. put it that way. and she was incredibly fair with me. she took a really small percentage, because she said she liked to support local artists and have unique things in her shop. she gave me my own section. and another local shop gave her a really rude offer for her shop, less than the price of the fixtures and the stock, which is all she is asking. rude!
i plan to card up some batts for luxe to-morrow, and maybe do some dyeing. i ordered some new dyes today that are in some of the gorgeous pastels that i had been having a difficult time achieving, soft pinks and greens, etc. so expect some super gorgeous things! i am very excited myself. also, i will be getting some superwash merino roving in, so superwash yarns and fiber for you guys to play around with. it is amazing and spins itself, so for you drop spindles, or newbies, it is soooo nice and smooth. that is the kind of fiber i can spin without looking. oooh yeah! my hands are smarter than my brain is anyway.
for any of you sock knitters out there, heather is doing a survey for school and needs as much input as possible, so go and check it out…and you can win sock yarn, too!
i am going to try to catch up on blogs a bit and try to sleep.
smoochies,
n.
