sweet!
well, so i delivered the boutique order (finally!) and everything went fine, although she wasn’t all that excited by the scrappy yarn scarves! are you shocked? actually, i am not nearly as fond of that yarn as everyone else is, so it doesn’t surprise me that much. i tend to have really similar taste to hers, so we do okay together. when i got there, she had had a bad day, and is pregnant, which has been making her feel horrible and had just finished crying. for the first time, i actually felt like i knew her, and we talked for a while. it was really nice. i ended up showing her the little ink drawerings in my notebook. like this one:
and this one:
and i have some more i didn’t photo yet, like some peapods. too cute. if anyone has any plants ideas to draw, shoot em my way. so far, i have been making stuff up. she really like the wire crochet with the paper beads, so i will probably make a few different things for the shop and see how they go.
she is having a trunk show, as i mentioned, in december, i will post the stats later on. i will be there spinning/crocheting/knitting both days. she said it gets really really busy, so i will make sure that i post the time of the spinning demo, although, i will have my wheel there for anyone who wants to pop in and have a quick go on her (kiki doesn’t mind, i swear. she is a friendly wheel! as is gigi.) or just see how it works. i expect some of you who live right in the city to pop by so i feel popular (jess!) apparently people buy a lot there, so i need to get a line of stuff ready for that show in the meantime. i would like to do some wristwarmers, so if anyone has any ideas for those knitting things with the windy knob to crank out tubes, or any other way of doing that, let me know, leave a comment or email me.
somehow it took more than 4 hours to get to pittsburgh, drop off the stuff and get back. it was pouring rain, people were driving like dummies and i got a bit lost, i actually found the way though, even though i am super unfamiliar with that area. woot! then, i accidentally got off at the monroeville exit (where my parents used to live) and had to add an extra 15 minutes+ traffic onto my way back home. for the first time, when passing the area that my parents lived in, i really realized that they don’t live here anymore. we didn’t see each other that much before, but i knew they lived 35 minutes away. it was a bit strange. i also noticed things that had been knocked down, or had been built, and that was a strange feeling, too.
i am working on some bridal yarns (Although i imagine no one that is getting married will buy them) that are full of sparkle, eyelashy, super duper soft, sequins, you name it. i haven’t plied them yet, put they are gorgeous. like new snow under the moonlight. i hope to finish the first one to-morrow and post a pic.
i got a really sweet email from a woman that bought every yarn i listed last week within a couple of minutes of the first one being listed. she bought all of the leaf yarns and then some. anyway, she is obviously a serious yarn afficianado(sp?) and sent me a note saying that it was the nicest yarn she had ever knitted with, and after taking it into a boutique that she makes things for, they wanted to know how many more she could make, and then family members wanted things for christmas, too. most of my clients are regulars, so i do get great input, and it means so much to me. i really am very picky about what kind of fiber i use in my yarns, i want them to be as soft as possible and as functional as possible within the parameters of all the fanciness (i made up a word!) there is absolutely nothing wrong with yarns that aren’t super functional, but are beautiful, but there is something amazing about being able to make it knit up wonderfully, wear wonderfully and feel fantastic, so on every level…it is fun to knit with, fun to wear and holds up over time, is what i aim for. i do some crazy yarns sometimes with odds and ends that are obviously not meant to make a sweater out of, but i love soft things. sometimes i feel like spinners who don’t really knit so much may not put a lot of consideration into how well it will hold together (which is okay), in a lot of ways, i feel the same way about art, there are some artists that i adore that don’t make lasting art, and that makes it all the more beautiful…joseph beuys, anselm kiefer and on and on. i have always really worried about the longevity of my work, though. i want to make sure that there is a decent foundation that will hold up (unlike work i have bought that fell off of the wall due to faulty hanger backs) or a gorgeous piece i bought that had a light in it that doesn’t work. so. not. cool. the light is what really sold it for me. ok. shutting up about it.
otherwise, i have been strangely moody lately. not just moody really, but i almost start crying over anything the least bit sad, or happy, but moving. it is odd. i am not usually like that. it is that time of the month, but it almost always is, really. i am normally not so much of a crier. and i almost call people i haven’t spoken to because i miss them. and then remember that it is a horrible idea.
off to work on some knitting. for sale. as usual. i am so tired. i actually left the house, did my hair, put on make-up, drove far away. woah! yarn? okay.
so, whilst on flickr, this collage (and more!) artist, ophelia chong commented on one of my drawerings (finally! i never get comments from artists on my work. sob!) anyway, i checked her out and her work is really interesting. sometimes a bit freaky. so check it.

Oh I wish I didnt live so far away, and actually had a credit card or something so I could buy online, and wasnt spending all my money on bellydance costumes….okay, throwing a wish out that one day I will be able to buy Natasha’s beautiful yarns!
I love the sound of the bridal yarns. You wrote the magic words “sparkle” and “sequins”, and although we dont get snow where I live, “new snow under moonlight” sounds heavenly, and in this case, warm. Fun.

People who do not like scrappy scarves are evil. I mean not fit to breath the air that I do. I can tolerate Bad Drivers, Chuck Norris, Republicans, Mimes, Nicole Richie {I cannot tolerate Paris Hilton.I am certain I would fly into a homicidal rage if I ran into her. Fortunately we do not frequent the same clubs}, White Sepratists, people from Cleveland, Osama Bin Laden, Black Sepratists, people that Crochet, freaks that play the mouth harp while riding a unicyle {there are more of them than you think}, Democrats, Libertarians, Green Sepratists, members of the Green Party, knock off Kermit the Frog Puppets, blue serpratists {not to be confussed with the Blue Man Group. I think they rock. But then again I am a Flock of Seagulls fan}, and German Tourists in Boston or Salem Mass..
But people that do not like scrappy scarves. They are evil incarnate
By the way they just had Pimped out Jesus on Conan O’Brien. That was so cool that it almost made me forget about my hatred of people that hate scrappy scarves. Well I better stop before I go off on a strange tangent.

Oh yeah, I have gotten alot of compliments on the collage art you sent me. I just love it. It hangs above my ugly green 70’s chair in my livingroom.

barbe, i do love your bridal yarns…actually, i have this one yarn that i bought when i just learned to knit and did scarves for a boutique that is a bunch of yarns together and i made a bridal wrap from it, so i have been kind of meaning to, although i think it may indeed have been your yarns that reminded me with winter coming how nice white with sparkle would be. all the white with sparkle i have ever made was loooooved. i will be attempting to hook up the vonage today, if i do, i will call ya lady! much to tell.

try flickr and search for particular plants or google Carnivorous plants and there is a bunch of sites that sell them with great photo’s. I’m sure the library has books on it too. I love those plants but I seem to kill them everytime my boy buys one for me.

My favorite plant ever is my Japanese flowering maple. I just got a new one. Anyway, some of your drawings remind me of it. Here is a like one picture, and there are a couple more on my flickr:

I was perusing your flickr just now, and I realized I have been reading your blog for well over a year! There are pictures from like June last year that I remember seeing when they were new.
I just wanted to say you are very inspiring.

n, i’m at the coffee shop next door, scamming their hi-speed in person rather than from my couch (my ‘puter’s in the shop). the barristo nick likes the peanut pod sketch. thought you should know. he’s got good taste, no?
