etsy! what the hell!?!

so, i was wondering why i hadn’t sold all of my yarn (it is REALLY good, i am telling you!) and was attempting to look at barbe’s etsy store and the link wouldn’t work. i tried someone else’s, didn’t work. tried my own. no dice. and then, tried just etsy.com. no. dice. grrrrrrr. i don’t know what is up with this shite. my tivo won’t work. etsy won’t work. i have a headache.

just quickly here…i have a few questions for ya…lurkers…delurk yourselves! there might be a little something in it for one of you that answers…savvy?
1. do you listen to podcasts? if yes, which ones, and why.
2. what would you like to hear in a podcast?
3. what sucks? what annoys you? what do you wish people wouldn’t do?
4. any other suggestions?

you know i am a short attention spanned person and i haven’t found any podcasts yet (okay, i have only listened to a few) that weren’t either really really boring to me or really really annoying to me. clearly, it is just me, since loads of people love em. as i have gotten older, i have really gotten to be more and more flakey. i can’t stand seeing movies in the theatre. i used to see them weekly. i can’t sit still. when people cough, i feel like i want to scream and run away (let’s hope that doesn’t get worse. yipes!) i have to pee 5 times, i get bored, i fall asleep, i am fidgety. if i am listening to a cd in the studio, i often have the tv on with the sound off and am spinning or working on a painting or whatever. or talking on the phone. or all of the above. seriously.

i just get bored really easily, so i need it to be really really good, interesting, fun, no stupid voices, bad music…so any suggestions?

if you are a spinner, you might get some handpainted top, if you are a knitter, you might get some handspun yarn. so post an answer and i will pick one or two people. make sure you have a reachable email attached to it. okay?

i am going to sew jump rings(if i can find em) onto my poppies for easy attaching to yarns. and maybe read a bit. oh wait, it is 1:30 already. this photo has my felt poppies on jakie. hee.
xray eyes!

mwah!

Besides listening to Lime & Violet (um, in small doses), I listen to the podcast of NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me (can be very funny) and NPR’s All Songs Considered. I really like that one - it’s only about 30 minutes, and it’s just maybe four or five good songs from all sorts of genres that you might not hear anywhere else - a new Lucinda Williams off an unreleased disc, or a new rock band out of Brooklyn that hasn’t gotten any attention yet, or a Joshua Bell violin selection.

I also like All Songs Considered. I listen to science podcasts- The Nature Podcast is good but some of their over-the-phone interviews are horrible sound quality. The host is British and loves puns. He also hosts the Naked Scientist which is quite a bit more accessable.
My newest favorite is Coffee Break Spanish. I am learning just enough to get by in a number of languages.

If you like weird-ness and drinks, Tiki Bar TV is a video podcast that people swear by.

The link you posted to Etsy has a comma in it instead of a period, so maybe that was why Etsy wasn’t loading? Otherwise, it is loading fine for me.

As for podcasts, well - I’m biased. Because I am a podcaster. So since I probably can’t accurately answer your questions, I’ll just invite you to check out the Pointy Sticks podcast if you haven’t already, and if you did but didn’t like it I hope you will try it again as I am tweaking the format lately. I’ve been cutting back on the music, normally only adding it at the end now instead of throughout the show. I’ve been adding interviews and/or “knit chats” with other knitters, and they have worked well. The Nancy Bush interview and retreat review will be coming up this week (On 1/31 or 2/1/07) and next week is the podcast anniversary.

Matter of fact, if you would be interested in donating a prize for the anniversary - that would be awesome. I just swooned over your yarns and fiber a few minutes ago (which I can’t buy thanks to traveling this weekend), and it is a GREAT way to get the word out to thousands of people… Feel free to contact me at podcast at pointysticks.org if you are interested.

Natasha! That photo of Jake is hilarious. Made me snort my coffee! As for podcasts, for me, the most important thing is the story-telling ability of the podcaster. If the story is good, I can listen forever. I would have to say my favorite so far is the podcast at Insubordiknit. Jacey can really tell a story, her voice tone is great and I could listen to her for hours. She just seems very authentic - no airs. I enjoy Lime ‘n Violet. Sometimes, they are rip snortin’ funny. I listen after they put the show notes up so that I can follow along with the yarn porn. It is an awesome way to get your yarn noticed. If you are thinking of doing a podcast I do have one request - could you do the whole thing in a fake accent of some sort? I think I might find that amusing, but then again it’s been a long day.

vickie, i know! it is funny! i am more critical than you are, i get bored of the conversational stuff, especially when people talk in the super slow public radio way i cannot handle. don’t know why. i know why, i am too hyper for it and i want to fast forward, but kind of can’t. i do enjoy the fake accent idea though. that would be hilarious! my family are south african so i can do a fairly good british or south african one. i could do a really really bad french, spanish, german or russian accent, although i think you and i would be the only ones that enjoyed it.

I actually don’t listen to podcasts very often, but like you, I get bored easily and usually have many things going on @ once. I like podcasts to be funny with really good music, ideally. as long as it’s funny and keeps me entertained, though..I’m there! or even just really good interviews..

    anyway, podcasts I’d recommend..
well, dane cook’s tourgasm podcast is pretty good.

I haven’t checked it out yet, but I heard there is a Scrubs podcast each week. and I love Scrubs. so if you do, that might be a good one!

not sure if this was even a valid comment to your post, but ya know. and also, I added you on my etsy favorites. :)

    happy monday (evening)!

oh and my e-mail is oasisjenn@yahoo.com

I have not found many that I like. They are just usually poorly written and not funny. I just do not think the medium has come into it’s own yet.

Listen to me I called it a medium. I am becoming goofy in my old age.

And it is not nice to abuse your husband to entertain your blog readers. My wife likes to …… well never mind. Just know I had nothing to do with those picture. I was asleep.

Oh and have you thought of hats. You can usually get a Viking Helmet on a sleeping spouse or maybe a jester hat.

I am a heavy sleeper and Carol once …. well never mind. It involved a magic marker and I have been metally scared because of it.

Well if Jake is reading this remember use hats and hope your wife is heavy sleeper.

And I think I will be starting a support group for the abused Husbands of Knitting Bloggers. Let me know if you are interested.

hey zeepo, i was actually thinking about trying one of those giant buckingham palace guard hats. the big q-tip looking ones that have the strap. i’ll have to make sure she is way asleep though. i’m definitely up for a support group. “hi, my name is jake, and i’m a knitting blogger husband. (restrained sob).” we can meet in an underground bunker. jake.
